Announcement of “Technical workshop on decentralized domestic wastewater treatment by an aerobic trickling filter system”

Dr. Kazuaki Syutsubo
(Deputy director of center for regional environmental research)
National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan

In the domestic provincial cities and developing countries in Asian region, introduction of the water environmental conservation technology has been delayed due to economic constraints. The aim of this project is to develop technologies to conserve the water environment and evaluate the effectiveness of conservation projects so that effective water quality management can be conducted in areas under economic constraints.

Reduce the energy of the treatment system (operational cost) promotes the dissemination of technology. Also, introduction of decentralized treatment of domestic wastewater is considered to be effective correspond to immediate contamination countermeasure. Therefore, currently, we made demonstration experiment of an aerobic trickling filter system (originally called down-flow hanging sponge) for domestic wastewater treatment by cooperation with universities (Khon Kean University, Kasetsart University) and local municipality (Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Thailand). As a result, the aerobic trickling filter system showed superior in removal of ammonia nitrogen (NH4-N) and coliform bacteria compared to the existing treatment system (activated sludge process). Also, it is possible to reduce 50% of space requirement, 70% reduction of electric energy consumption and excess sludge production.

Explanation 1

Based on the corporate philosophy of carrying out environmental conscious activities, in last Aug., full scale treatment system (capacity 40-60 m3/day) was installed in company housing of Thai Perkerizing Co., Ltd. as post treatment of conventional septic tank. Therefore, we will hold technical workshops at Thai Perkerizing Co., Ltd., Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate on day 23rd January 2018 to promote understanding and further development of the aerobic trickling filter system.

If you are interested in this workshop and technology, please contact to Kazuaki Syutsubo.
