In three ecosystems (field, forest, meadow) situated side by side on a slope (length of 350 m, raised 130 m a.s.l. with inclination angle of 5), the occurrence of bacteria, fungi, protozoa in soil was investigated. The slope reached the lake shore, forming at this place a land-water ecotone; this zone was also studied. Formation of microorganism communities as well as their quantitative and qualitative composition were analysed. For estimation of the potential activity of the Protozoa in different ecosystems, their numbers and biomass were determined. The quality of the investigated habitats was evaluated with the use of protozoological indices.
