The 2nd National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) Picture Contest – Your Life and the Environment

The National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) announces the 2nd NIES Picture Contest, for Junior-High School students nationwide. The submission period for contest entries will be from April 2 (Tuesday) to June 3 (Monday), 2013. This contest, which is this year being held for the second time, aims to deepen the interest and understanding of the next generation in environmental issues, as they will determine the future of such issues as well as the future of environmental research.
The theme of the current contest is “Your Life and the Environment”. We wish to receive depictions of your future life as you imagine it including the environment which will surround you. Selected entries will be displayed on the NIES homepage from July 9 (Tuesday), 2013, and all entrants will also receive a commemorative prize. In addition, the winning entries will be displayed during the National Institute for Environmental Studies Summer Open House, to be held on July 20 (Saturday), 2013.

Your Life and the Environment
What kind of an adult will you be and what kind of life will you be living? Your needs and lifestyle will probably have changed a lot! The nature and animals might be different too but it will almost certainly be more comfortable, and probably more fun. Please use your imagination in drawing your future life and surrounding environment.

3. Entry Specifications
Picture Size = L 54cm X H 38cm. The picture should be drawn laterally. Writing can be incorporated in the picture. (Please also include a description or explanation of the picture in less than 200 words)
Fill-in application form (see below) and attach it to the back of your picture
* Entries are limited to original works which have not previously been presented
* To avoid creasing or bending, send your entry in a boarded envelope
* The copyright of the works entered into the competition will revert to the National Institute for Environmental Studies. Entries will be returned to applicants
* Any personal information shared during the application process will only be used in relation to the current competition, and for no other purpose

Separate prizes will be awarded to all the top places.
8. Posting of Prizewinning Entries
Prizewinning entries will be published on the homepage of the National Institute for Environmental Studies from July 9 (Tuesday), 2013 (prizewinners will be contacted directly in advance)
9. Exhibition of Entries
There will be an exhibition of the entries at the National Institute for Environmental Studies Summer Open House, to be held on July 20 (Saturday), 2013, and on the homepage of NIES.
10. Prize-giving Ceremony
A ceremony will be held during the National Institute for Environmental Studies Summer Open House on July 20 (Saturday), 2013.
