About TPM

TPM19 Online

In order to further promote research collaboration in the Asian region, the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES - Japan), the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES - China) and the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER – South Korea) have regularly met since 2004.

The three Presidents, and representatives of these institutions, which all play a leading role in environmental research in their respective countries, have exchanged views on priority fields for collaboration at the annual meeting.

The Tripartite Presidents Meeting was first convened in Beijing in 2004, as a means to further research ties and collaboration among the three countries (Japan-Korea-China) via discussions and workshops involving NIES, NIER and CRAES. Each year, one of the three institutions plays host to TPM.

The four Potential Research Areas (PRAs) have been designated for collaboration since TPM16 as follows.

  1. Air Pollution
  2. Environmental Health
  3. Water Environment
  4. Climate Change
