Brief Description of Research: Island Ecosystems are vulnerable for artificial disturbance, and thus a large number of organisms are at a risk of extinction. My research subject is conservation biology of island birds and mammals, focusing on their movement ability and food selection.

Genetic structure of endangered species
I estimated the degree of gene flow within and among island habitats of endangered species: albatrosses, Japanese wood pigeons and Amami rabbits. These studies are useful for their appropriate genetic management.

Diet analyses based on DNA metabarcoding
I evaluated diet composition of Japanese wood pigeons and sheawaters whose diet is difficult to be observed in the field. I also conducted experiments to establish the technique.

Inter island seed dispersal by birds in oceanic islands
The Japanese wood pigeon, which distribute islands around Japanese and Korean territories, move among island in various temporal and spacial scales. I estimated how such behavior affect inter-island seed dispersal of plants by monitoring of movement frequency of birds and fruit abundance, and fecal analyses.
